CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) A Cedar City elementary school’s robotics program is becoming the epicenter of STEM education in the state. Two separate partnership programs at North Elementary have earned recognition from the White House. For the very first time Wednesday, North Elementary fifth graders program robots, programming software in a matter of minutes.

MISSOULA, Montana – Despite trailing just 15-14 with just one minute remaining in the opening half, the Montana Grizzlies managed to blow open the second half for a 43-20 homecoming victory in Missoula. Patrick Tyler threw 16-41-1, including three touchdowns to Mike Sharp.

Region Roundup: Canyon View soccer, Desert Hills tennis capture region titles

The Canyon View Falcons continued their Region 12 domination Tuesday with an 8-0 win over Richfield that also saw CV win its second straight region title. Allie Lloyd bagged a hat trick and Sydnee Evans scored twice for the Falcons. Makayla Mechem, Morgan Haag and Tylee Bulloch each added goals as well.

We successfully completed the first “Jumpstart” cohort—all general education courses taught together in a completely integrated format in one year—of this Inside Higher Ed reported: “The institution—top to bottom—should be commended for taking educational risks,” said Karen Gross, former president of Southern Vermont College and former senior policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Education. She called the experiment bold and thoughtful. “Change doesn’t occur often in higher education,” said Gross, “And when it does, it’s usually tinkering at the edges. 4. We had the best graduation rate last year, of all public, regional universities in the eight Intermountain West states, and a record number of graduates last spring totaling 1712.

5. During the first week of school SUU (branded University of the Parks) pulled off the largest field trip in the world, on the 100th Anniversary of the National Parks Service (SUU Day in the Parks). 14. We led the state in enrollment growth last year—looking at the total year—fall 2015, spring 2016 and summer 2016 combined our FTE Annualized growth was 10.6%. The next closest was UVU at 6.3%, Snow 5.6%, USU 4.6%. Everyone else was either flat or down.

20. What about the future? We just completed a new strategic plan after 18 months work. It is a very ambitious plan with a new mission statement, vision statement, and core themes. Canyon View Football Beats Richfield 32-8

Football: Canyon View beats Richfield by 24 points

A pair of touchdowns on each side of halftime helped Canyon View blow open Friday’s contest against Richfield, and the defense put the hammer down in a dominating 32-8 win. Stockton Rigby threw three touchdowns, two of them to Isaiah Shearer, and the Falcons stymied the Wildcats’ offense for most of the game to remain unbeaten in Region 12.

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota – The Thunderbirds fell to the University of North Dakota (16-25, 17-25, 17-25) to open Big Sky play. “We are still learning how to compete,” SUU head coach Craig Choate said about his team’s effort.
